Volunteers monitor amphibians and reptiles (including the Eastern Box Turtle Telemetry Program), fish, SAV (bay grasses) and water quality. These programs offer an opportunity for participants to become involved in real data collection, which is used to help land managers make informed decisions.
Please see Calendar of Events for current trainings and workshops or call 410-612-1688 for more information.
No prior experience is necessary as volunteers will be trained and all necessary equipment is supplied. (Instructions on species identification and how to collect data and search techniques will be given the day of the search.) Field guides and all necessary equipment will be provided. There are many benefits to becoming an active volunteer* at the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center, including seasonal volunteer appreciation trips, the annual volunteer dinner, skill and resume development, meeting new people, and let's not forget, spending time in a natural place (to mention just a few). *Please note: Active volunteer status is reached when you volunteer at least 20 hours a year.
Calls for Volunteers for these projects are posted in the Calendar of Events for the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center. The calendar is posted at the Center and on the website. You must register for and attend the training workshop in order to participate in these volunteer opportunities. Space is limited so early registration is recommended.
